The Save Our World Trust (SOW) has thankfully just been granted charitable status. The ambitious name was chosen because, quite frankly, we have no choice but to collectively do all we can if we want to safeguard a world fit for our children and theirs to live in.
We will provide a open set of accounts on request, so that donors can see how every peny was spent in teh past. SOW is to be a labour of love on behalf o the directors and secretary, with only basic overheads- stationary,stamps and phone bills accounted for and nothing taken out for wages, office rent or other overheads.
The 4 categories for which we are asking for funding are as follows.
1) THE RELEIF OF POVERTY... With G8 war spending, standing at $900 billionper annum ($200 billion of which alone goes on destrying Iraq) and G8 aid spending, rising to a generoue $50 billion per annum at Gleneagles, it's not hard to work out where the issues of health, education, food programmes, housing and welfare stand in the pecking order. War = Poverty. Please give generously to support Globalise Resistance (GR) and STOP the war coalition who together organised for 2 million to march against Iraq war on February 13th 2003. We must help support the likes of GR if we are to Save Our World.
2) "THE PROTECTION & PRESERVATION OF GOOD HEALTH"... Our focus here is 3 fold; To encourage and support small holdings whether it be farms or allotments and selling produce to the local communities; campaigning to help stop the building of Supermarkets; and continuing to keep GM out of our country(and help other countries where possible to do the same) and out of our food as much as we can. The extraordinary lack of testing ,spin from the big companies and evidence of the potential harmful effects from the very few tests that have been done (see website link for Tapeley Park - letter to Directors of Sainsburys , ASDA and Tesco) suggests it is harmful to feed ourselves and oiur children with products containing GM. Funding FOE , Genetic Food Alert ( GFA) , Gebewatch - to whom SOW have already made small donations, and other groups who do so much on a showstring budget is a high priority.
3) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT... with issues of either political science relationg to food production.... Informing the public is the key to safeguarding our foodchain as far as we can. We will support the likes of Corporate Watch who have a big circulation nationwide of Information such as pamphlet titled "What's wrong with Supermarkets?" which provides all the reasons (such as halth and climatic damage, and global cultrual destruction), we could possibly want to Buy Local and Boycott Supermarkets.
4) CLIMATE CHANGE....Climate change is overwhlemingly the single most alarming threat to our futures - even the Pentagon have admitted this. Yet the recent G8 at Gleneagles decided to do precisely nothing about this issue.
Converting our properties, the building of affordable, low inpact housing (such as strawbale), driving fuel economic cars , buying local are all issues we will cmapaign for. SOW will support information services for example , on teh most effective ways to convert your property- with a database and the way to obtain the best grants available- see the Website in Links for Tapeley Park for links. Tapeley is about to convert to 100% sustainable energy withour progress (and mistakes) documented on the website.
Please circulate this information to your friends and encourage them to help us. Not only do we get a lot of information out in the National Media, due to our actions up til now (which is probably the most useful of all ) , but we also know most of the main people in various camapign groups . We're about to enbark on co'ordinating biannual meetings with them. plus business people with shared interests, and certain MP's to see if we can focus our energies and plus possibly combine on issues of shared interests and goals.
